Welcome to the first edition of Monday Matters in our new home on Blogger!

I hope everyone had a wonderful Independence Day holiday. Now that the Fourth of July is behind us, many of us are settling back into the familiar rhythm of planning. Here at SWAN, like so many organizations serving the nonprofit community, we're already immersed in planning events, programs, and initiatives that will take place in late summer, throughout the fall, and even into the early days of winter. We'll be sharing many of those opportunities in the weeks ahead, and we hope you'll mark your calendars and join us whenever you can.

Before the busy season kicks into high gear, though, summer offers something many nonprofit leaders rarely have enough of: a chance to pause, take stock, and tackle some of those small but important projects that often get pushed aside when calendars are full.

As we've talked about before, no two nonprofits are exactly alike. Every organization has its own mission, history, resources, challenges, and goals. That means there is no universal checklist for success. What makes sense for one organization may not be the right fit for another.

With that in mind, here are a few ideas that might be worth adding to your own summer to-do list:

Refresh your website and ensure your contact information, board list, and donation page are up to date.
Review your social media profiles and update logos, cover images, and organization descriptions where needed.
Thank donors, volunteers, board members, and community partners with a phone call, handwritten note, or email.
Clean up your donor database by updating contact information and removing duplicate records.
Review your strategic plan or annual goals and identify where you're making progress and where adjustments may be needed.
Organize photos, videos, testimonials, and program statistics so they're ready for grant applications, annual reports, and year-end fundraising.
Check that your website, communications, and upcoming events are as accessible and inclusive as possible.
Reach out to another nonprofit simply to introduce yourself or continue building a relationship. Some of the strongest collaborations begin long before there's a grant opportunity or a shared project on the table.

One of those suggestions is to take an honest look at how your organization communicates with the people you hope to reach. Sometimes a small change can make a big difference.

So we're taking our own advice.

For quite some time, our most trusted advisor, my mother, has been encouraging us to move the SWAN blog to a platform that would be easier for readers to access and, just as importantly, easier to share. After thinking it over, we realized she was right.

That's why you're reading this on Blogger.

Our mission hasn't changed. We still want to connect nonprofit leaders, share opportunities, encourage collaboration, and highlight the people and organizations making a difference throughout our communities. We've simply moved to a platform that makes those ideas easier to share. Sometimes the simplest improvements are the ones that have the greatest impact.

To help make this blog even more useful, we're also introducing a new recurring feature: the SWAN Community Calendar. Each week, we'll highlight grant workshops, professional development opportunities, networking events, arts and cultural programs, conferences, and other happenings that may interest nonprofits across Southwestern Pennsylvania and beyond.
